Arrow Electronics Hosts First Asia-Pacific Internet of Things Immersions Event to Accelerate IoT Development

HONG KONG, CHINA--(Marketwired - Nov 3, 2015) - Arrow Electronics, Inc., (NYSE: ARW) announced its Internet of Things (IoT) Immersions event that connects IoT ecosystem leaders and developers to discuss the critical aspects of successful deployment of IoT, and explores how businesses can overcome disruptive technology complexity to accelerate IoT development. The event will be held on 19 November, 2015 at the Charles K. Kao Auditorium of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP).

A recent IDC report indicates that by 2020 there could be as many as 8.6 billion connected devices in Asia-Pacific region, and one out of every five connected devices will be found in China. With the enormous number of connected IoT nodes, technology manufacturers are faced with ever-increasing complexity and challenges around wireless connectivity, system integration, data management and aggregation, and monetization opportunities.

"Successful IoT system deployment requires expertise and capabilities across critical elements, including secure wireless connectivity, low-power microcontrollers and processors, sensors, software, applications, and standard API-based framework," said Esmond Wong, vice president of business development and supplier marketing for Arrow's components business in the Asia-Pacific region. "With our engineering expertise and long-standing relationships with leading-edge technology suppliers and IoT ecosystem solution providers, Arrow offers a holistic approach to IoT platform development and implementation."

The IoT event features four concurrent seminar tracks, and exhibition booths of more than 50-plus IoT solutions targeted for Asian markets ranging from lighting, healthcare, smarthome, to industrial applications. Among the latest IoT solutions on showcase is Arrow's new DragonBoard™ 410c "Internet of Things" (IoT) Starter Kit, which is based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 processor and bundled with Amazon's new IoT Software Development Kit (SDK). Debuted at recent Amazon Web Services re:Invent annual user conference, the kit includes the tools a developer or maker would need to start up an IoT application in minutes.

This is Arrow's first Internet of Things (IoT) Immersions event to be held in the Asia-Pacific region, following successful events in North America and Europe. IoT-based solution providers, developers, and innovators will gain insights about the latest technologies and services, discuss topical issues and emerging applications, and see demos of IoT solutions created with Arrow's support.

"Our vision is to create a platform that supports and encourages innovation and technology for sustainable development of Hong Kong. Serving as a point of convergence for disruptive technology trend events such as Arrow's IoT Immersions aligns well with our drive to establish an inspiring and engaging environment to nurture and foster innovation and technology advancement," said Andrew Young, Chief Commercial Officer, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.

To broaden its alliance with industry association, Arrow is co-hosting this event with the Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association (HKEIA). "We are pleased to collaborate with global technology companies such as Arrow to create an engaging and collaborative platform for technology creators and innovators to gain better understanding of the ecosystem and develop their respective game plans to seize IoT business opportunities," said Basil Wai, CEO of HKEIA.

Technology and engineering experts and specialists from technology suppliers and solution providers including AbleCloud, Cylan, Cypress Semiconductor, Freescale, Micom Tech, Micron Technology, Nordic Semiconductor, ON Semiconductor, Sensirion, Suga, STMicroelectronics, TE Connectivity, Texas Instruments, Thundersoft, Well Being Digital and Wireless Sustainability Center of Hong Kong City University will also be present to discuss their latest technology innovations around IoT.
