Arrowhead Library System Offers Patrons Downloadable Audio Books

Online Access to Popular Titles Is Now Available

MOUNTAIN IRON, MN--(Marketwire - August 13, 2007) - Imagine listening to the latest best-seller from James Patterson while you're driving to work or relaxing at the lake. Patrons of the Arrowhead Library System now have online access to download audio books, accessible anytime, anywhere with just a library card at http://arrowhead.lib.overdrive.com/.

To check out a downloadable audio book, visit www.arrowhead.lib.mn.us or www.duluth.lib.mn.us and click on the "Download Audiobooks" icon. Install the free OverDrive Media Console software, browse the dynamic collection, then check out and download titles to a personal computer. The audio files can be transferred to a compatible MP3 player, and some audio books can be burned to CD. For detailed instructions, see the website's 'Guided Tour.'

Among the growing collection are New York Times bestsellers, mystery, romance, non-fiction, business, and titles for children and teens. The 24/7 free access includes books from popular authors like Nora Roberts, J.D. Robb, Michael Connelly, and Janet Evanovich.

"This service will give our libraries the opportunity to reach more patrons than we ever have before," stated Jim Weikum, Director. "With the convenience of 24/7 access anywhere in the world, patrons don't even have to step foot in the library to check out books. They can download them from the comfort of home."

Users can check out up to 10 titles at a time, and at the end of the 14-day lending period, the audio books will automatically expire from their PC and are returned to the library's digital collection.

Participating libraries include Aurora, Babbitt, Baudette, Bovey, Buhl, Calumet, Carlton, Chisholm, Cloquet, Coleraine, Cook, Duluth, Ely, Eveleth, Gilbert, Grand Marais, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Hoyt Lakes, International Falls, Keewatin, Kinney, McKinley, Marble, Moose Lake, Mountain Iron, Silver Bay, Two Harbors, Virginia, and Arrowhead Library System Bookmobile and Mail-a-Book patrons.
