Art of Living Foundation: Global Leadership Training for First Nation Youth

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 29, 2007) - The first Canadian YLTP (Youth Leadership Training Program) from the Art of Living Foundation was launched in St. Theresa Point First Nation, Manitoba. Eleven youth from the isolated Island Lake community participated in the intensive and experience-rich program from August 9-19, 2007.

As part of an on-going commitment to work with youth leaders and other member of the community of St. Theresa Point, the Art of Living Foundation has partnered with the Ministry of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs and Four Arrows Regional Health Authority for this YLTP. YLTP integrates physical yoga practices, meditation, breathing techniques and leadership skills for a holistic long-term approach to community development.

A select group of graduates of the program will continue their training at the Art of Living North American Centre in la Mauricie, Quebec. These youth are scheduled to meet with the Art of Living founder, world-renowned spiritual and humanitarian leader, H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in September when he will be visiting Toronto to publicly conduct some of his legendary breathing and meditation courses from September 20-23.

Last July, Sri Sri met with Grand Chief Ron Evans of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs to discussed how the Art of Living Foundation could help strengthen aboriginal communities by combating issues such as alcohol abuse, suicide and gang-related violence.

The YLTP Program has trained 25,710 youth in countries as diverse as South Africa, Argentina, India, U.S., Cote-D'Ivoire and Mexico. The program enables young people to release the accumulated effects of stress and trauma as well as to gain practical tools, inspiration and continued support to be positive agents of change in their communities.
