Artefact Expands Its Thought Leadership With the Hire of August de los Reyes

Artefact Appoints Former Microsoft Design Principal to Leadership Role

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - October 19, 2010) -  Artefact, a Seattle-based design consultancy, today announced that it has named August de los Reyes as Design Director. De los Reyes joins Artefact from Microsoft where he served most recently as Principal User Experience Manager for Windows. Preceding Windows, de los Reyes was the Director of User Experience for Microsoft Surface, a revolutionary multi-touch computer that responds to natural hand gestures and real-world objects.

In his new role at Artefact, de los Reyes will work closely with the company's senior leadership on key strategic initiatives. De los Reyes' responsibilities also include development of new practice areas, strategic design methodologies, and intellectual property planning.

De los Reyes spent seven and a half years with Microsoft, starting as a designer at MSN, where he worked on various aspects of the product including user interface, visual communications and branding. He quickly established himself as a design leader at the software giant. Since MSN, he has led multi-disciplinary teams and industry-wide design initiatives in areas including search, hardware-software integration and natural user interface. Before Microsoft, de los Reyes lived in the Netherlands where he worked for Philips Design.

De los Reyes holds an MDesS with Distinction in Product Design from Harvard University, and maintains an affiliate faculty appointment at the University of Washington Division of Design. He is active in the international design community as well as various design organizations including the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA.) De los Reyes was a juror for the 2009 International Design Excellence Awards.

"August brings Artefact a wealth of experience and expertise coupled with a strong, intellectually-charged point of view," said Rob Girling, Principal and Co-founder of Artefact. "His decision to join us emphasizes our unwavering dedication to quality -- not only in contributing to our clients' success, but as a center of excellence for world-class talent."
