Artist Inspired by Digital Age Puts Fine Art Spin on "The Social Network" at Hotel Casa del Mar

SANTA MONICA, CA--(Marketwire - January 26, 2011) - Hotel Casa del Mar is pleased to present artist Ken Solomon as the third installment in the Live Well Again Art and Event Series. The web-surfing artist's work will be featured from January 26 to April 20, 2011.

This exhibition will include, among others, a series of watercolors of Google Image Search results. Solomon believes Google image search is today's contemporary encyclopedia. He creates an image by appropriating Google's appropriation of other people's images.

"I believe it's an artist's job to take an everyday item and give it another meaning. Most people use Google image search purely as a resource. If it's regurgitated into something done by hand, you're going to look at it with another perspective," he said.

The exhibition includes paintings and drawings as well as three single-channel videos that demonstrate the vitality and diversity of modern and contemporary art.

These works include Ken Solomon's Google Portrait: Genetic Optimism I (2009) and Google Portrait: Genetic Optimism II (2009) as well as Ken Solomon and Marco Maggi's timelapse video Micro and Soft on Macintosh Apple (2004). Ken is exhibiting these pieces at Hotel Casa del Mar until April 20th. Artwork is available for purchase through Cynthia Greenwald Art Advisory.

Ken Solomon will be at Hotel Casa del Mar January 26-30, 2011 and is available for commissioned work, including his custom Google Search and Facebook works.
