Artists From Naxos of America Family of Distributed Labels Honored With Nine Grammy Awards


FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) -  On February 13, 2011 The Recording Academy® honored artists from Naxos, Sono Luminus, and CSO Resound, with nine Grammy Awards across eight categories.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, conductor Ricardo Muti, chorus master Duain Wolfe, and soloists Ildar Abdrazakov, Olga Borodina, Barbara Frittoli and Mario Zeffiri won the Grammy for Best Classical Album. Artists from this CSO Resound recording were also honored with the Grammy for Best Choral Performance.

The Naxos recording of Michael Daugherty's Metropolis Symphony, with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero, was awarded three Grammy's -- Best Engineered Classical Album, Best Orchestral Performance, and Best Classical Composition for Michael Daugherty's Deus Ex Machina.

Naxos artist Paul Jacobs garnered a Grammy for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance without Orchestra for his recording of Olivier Messiaen: Livre du Saint-Sacrement. Jacob's Grammy marks the first time that a solo recording of organ music has been recognized in this category.

The Parker Quartet brought home a Grammy for their Naxos recording of György Ligeti: String Quartets Nos. 1 & 2 in the Best Chamber Music Performance category.

Engineers Leslie Ann Jones, Kory Kruckenberg and David Sabee's Sono Luminus recording of the Complete Viola Works of Quincy Porter, with Cleveland Symphony violist Eliesha Nelson tied for the Best Engineered Album, Classical award with Naxos' Michael Daugherty: Metropolis Symphony recording (Mark Donahue, John Hill and Dirk Sobotka).

Producer of the Year, Classical honors were given to David Frost for a full body of his work including Naxos' Avner Dorman: Concertos for Mandolin, Piccolo, Piano and Concerto Grosso and Sono Luminus' Evan Chambers:The Old Burying Ground.
