Artists From Naxos Records Earn 11 Grammy(R) Award Nominations

The 53rd Annual Grammy(R) Awards Will Be Announced on February 13, 2011


FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwire - December 3, 2010) - Naxos recordings earned an impressive 11 Grammy® nominations in 8 categories as the nominees were announced last evening.

Michael Daugherty's Metropolis Symphony and Deus Ex Machina, with Giancarlo Guerrero conducting the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, led the way with nominations in five categories -- Best Classical Album, Best Orchestral Performance, Best Instrumental Soloist with Orchestra (Terrence Wilson, piano), Best Classical Composition (Deus Ex Machina) and Best Engineered Classical Album (Mark Donahue, John Hill and Dirk Sobotka).

Avi Avital's performance of Avner Dorman's Mandolin Concerto with the Metropolis Ensemble and Joseph Banowetz' recording of Paul Kletzki's Piano Concerto in D minor were each nominated for Best Instrumental Soloist with Orchestra

The Naxos recordings of Schoenberg's String Quartets 3 & 4 with the Fred Sherry String Quartet, and the Parker Quartet recording of Ligeti's String Quartets 1 & 2 were both nominated in the Best Chamber Music category. Paul Jacobs' recording of Livre du Saint-Sacrement was nominated for Best Instrumental Soloist without Orchestra.

The Elora Festival Singers were nominated in the Best Small Ensemble Performance category for their recording of the choral music of American composer Eric Whitacre.

Nominations for Producer of the Year, Classical were presented to Blanton Alspaugh, David Frost, Tim Handley, and the production team of Marina A. and Victor Ledin for their body of work including a total of 20 Naxos recordings.
