ARTISTS STILL WAITING FOR McGUINTY TO DELIVER ON PROMISE

NEWS CONFERENCE - QUEEN'S PARK, MEDIA STUDIO, MAIN LEGISLATIVE BUILDING, QUEEN'S PARK, TORONTO - THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2006 AT 11:30 A.M.

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, Media Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 13, 2006) - During the 2003 provincial election campaign, the McGuinty Liberals promised to introduce Status of the Artist legislation within the first two years of their mandate to improve the lives and incomes of Ontario's artists in the cultural sector. They're still waiting.

Professional artists and cultural workers' associations have come together and agreed to a Statement of facts and recommendations to urge the Ontario government to honour its promise to introduce Status of the Artist legislation.

The Statement, to be released at the news conference, has the support of over 30 arts organizations from Ontario and across Canada representing thousands of artists.
