ArvinMeritor Reduces Disaster Recovery Window by 90% With OuterBay

Billion Dollar Global Automotive Giant Reduces Disaster Recovery Time and Increases Oracle E-Business Performance

CUPERTINO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 18, 2005 -- OuterBay, a leader in information lifecycle management (ILM) solutions for applications and databases, today announced that ArvinMeritor, one of the largest global suppliers of automotive systems, modules and components, has improved application performance and sharply reduced its disaster recovery window and production database size with OuterBay LiveArchive.

"Our annual database growth rate of 50% was out of control -- and if we couldn't contain it, the business consequences could be disastrous," said Marcel Kuijs, Director, IT Europe for ArvinMeritor. "In addition to 30% increase in performance from our applications, OuterBay reduced our disaster recovery time to just two hours. We chose LiveArchive on the strength of its reputation as a mature, market-proven product, and it delivered."

ArvinMeritor is an $8 billion global automotive supplier with more than 120 manufacturing facilities in 25 countries. ArvinMeritor's CVS business group supplies parts and systems such as axles and brake systems to the world's leading automotive companies. CVS' production database was nearing one billion records, creating huge performance issues. In addition, ArvinMeritor estimates that at that size, the database would have taken 12 to 48 hours just to restore from tape, costing millions of dollars. The company was also planning to upgrade from Oracle 10.7 to Oracle 11i, which they projected would create three weeks of downtime. They needed a solution to reduce the size of the production database, but still maintain access to their records.

With OuterBay LiveArchive, ArvinMeritor has reduced the size of their production database by 60% and realized significant benefits, including:

-- Reduced disaster recovery time from 48 hours to just 2 hours, a
    reduction of 90%

-- Reduced the downtime to upgrade to Oracle 11i to a projected two days
    instead of three weeks

-- Improved Oracle application performance by 30%

-- Lower infrastructure and database administration costs

"More and more Global 2000 enterprises like ArvinMeritor are finding that OuterBay is the keystone to their comprehensive ILM strategies," said Michael Howard, Chairman and CEO of OuterBay. "OuterBay solutions continue to be validated by customers realizing significant, tangible benefits that affect their bottom line."
