PARIS--(Marketwire - Mar 1, 2013) - As a founding partner of the Aluminium
Stewardship Initiative (ASI), Constellium is delighted to welcome some of
its key customers AUDI, BMW Group and Rexam as new members.
As part of its active sustainable development strategy, Constellium has
engaged into a holistic approach in this domain and has strongly
contributed to create the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative that was
launched in September 2012.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative is a unique aluminium value chain
program that will define and deliver the first global standard
for aluminium sustainability. Under the coordination of the IUCN
(International Union for Conservation of Nature), it was initiated by
leading players on their respective markets: AMAG/Constancia Flexibles,
Amcor Flexibles, Constellium, Nespresso, Rio Tinto Alcan and Tetra Pak.
The ASI Standard will define environmental, social and governance criteria
that can be applied to all stages of aluminium production and
transformation. It will also consider how recycling and material
recovery from products that contain aluminium can contribute to improving
the metal's efficiency and minimising its environmental and social
footprint. The ASI Standard will be supported by a Chain of Custody
system, which will aim to assure the provenance of aluminium.
"Sustainability is becoming more and more a driver of decisions in our
industry, in particular in the fields of customer requests, economic
balance, public affairs and internal and external communications. It is
becoming a "licence to operate"", stated Laurent Musy, Chairman of the
Constellium's Sustainability Council. "Our first priority was to expand
the initial group of founders and invite new industry players. We are
happy that new prominent companies among which some key customers of
Constellium have responded and are now joining and we encourage more of
our customers to join.
Constellium is already deeply committed to environmental protection and
resource preservation. Thanks to unique advanced recycling capabilities,
the company is acting through many initiatives with business partners
in the packaging, automotive or aerospace markets.
