ASC X12 Announces New American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accreditation

FREDERICK, MD--(Marketwired - Feb 4, 2014) - The Accredited Standards Committee X12 (ASC X12) announced new ANSI accreditation status as a Standards Development Organization (SDO). ASC X12 was originally chartered in 1979 as a Standards Development Committee (SDC) supported by the Data Interchange Standards Association as the secretariat. The announcement was made to the ASC X12 membership at the inaugural member meeting of the ASC X12 corporation held during the Standing Meeting in Birmingham, Alabama.

"ASC X12 has a long and rich heritage in standards development. This is the next step in our growth as an organization, to support our business community into the future. Becoming a legal incorporated organization enabled ASC X12 to transition from a development committee to an independent, self-governing distinct organizational entity. It is the natural evolution for ASC X12," said Lisa Miller, ASC X12 Board Chair. "This is the foundation for new and exciting opportunities for our organization."

Cathy Sheppard, ASC X12 Chair agreed, stating "Accreditation as an ANSI SDO assures all implementers that ASC X12 will continue defining, maintaining and publishing EDI and CICA standards and related work products that are based on open collaboration and stakeholder consensus. This ANSI endorsement represents a strong confidence in our organization and our dedicated members who make this work possible."
