Ascension Software™ Releases Revolutionary New ORION-Based iPad™ Application, Continues to Push the 'Cool Factor' Envelope for Hotel Guests Around the World

VANCOUVER, WA--(Marketwire - Aug 9, 2011) - Ascension Software announced today they have created and published what can be termed as simply the "coolest," most faceted and functional guest-service application available for hotel guest services. The new application incorporates all of ORION's most popular features plus new iPad-specific features, including an alarm clock not available on a standard iPad. The first release is available on the Apple™ App Store™ branded for The Heathman Hotel, a 4 Star luxury hotel in downtown Portland, OR. Although branded for The Heathman Hotel, the ORION V3 iPad application has been built from the ground up to easily incorporate any branding required. As such, virtually any brand or flag can quickly and inexpensively get a state-of-the-art presence on the App Store and begin offering hotel services such as online room service, concierge services and interactive messaging directly to the application, and on the guest's own device.

It's good to be "Social"

The new application heavily utilizes a blend of beautiful imagery to pleasantly and effectively convey the services offered and the touch/gestures features that have made the iPad so incredibly popular.

"You can pull something up, and flick it away," says Rich Sipe, Director of Mobile Technologies, "plus, hotels are beginning to aggressively use social media to promote products and services available at their hotels and ORION V3 lets them pre-populate popular social media messages accessed from their app. We have built these social media touch-points right into the application."

The ORION V3 system is controlled on property via a simple-to-use online administration tool that adheres to the Ascension philosophy of change once/many platforms. A user may add a new room service item or daily special, for instance, and that change is reflected on all platforms the ORION system supports, including standard web browsing, iPad™, iPhone™ and Android™. The ORION V3 application also allows a property or brand to push time-based messaging directly into the application. Promotions, notices, whatever a hotel wishes to communicate to their guests can be instantly sent into the application or set to start and expire on a certain date.

The real power of the ORION application is Ascension's continuing quest to integrate the ORION platform with as many systems already invested in, trained on and deployed at any given hotel.

"We have discovered that the inherent value of our ORION software goes up exponentially when we integrate it with someone else's software already working effectively in a hotel," says Joe Adkisson, Executive Vice-President of Business Development for Ascension Software. An example of this type of benefit is the ORION-to-SynergyMMS integration. A maintenance management system heretofore considered a leading back-of-house SMS text message, task distribution platform is now accessible by the guests via the ORION platform creating a powerful new guest experience.

"With ORION a guest can now send a message to virtually any hotel employee requesting the service that employee specifically is responsible for," continues Adkisson. "Imagine cutting 2-3 people out of the standard hotel messaging stream. The possibility that the message is distorted or lost is dramatically reduced, thereby enhancing and streamlining the guest experience."

Other platforms that ORION integrates with are leading point-of-sale and property management systems to enhance guest security and authentication and posting food orders directly into a hotels POS system, dramatically increasing order accuracy and increasing per ticket totals as an added benefit.

The Ascension development team spent most of last year on ORION V2, which included strengthening the core databases, adding client requested feature sets and migrating core components of the ORION system to the cloud.

"We did this to prepare the system for large scale deployments and for international in terms of overall reliability and security," said Tom Hayes, Vice-President of Product Development, "adding 9 new forms of currency was also challenging but necessary as our clients continue to request the ORION system for use off shore."
