Asda Money Reveals Top Tips for Keeping Your Car Safe and Reliable

LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - July 13, 2012) - It is important to know how to keep your car safe and reliable during all seasons. Asda Money offer their top tips on how to ensure that your car remains reliable and your journey hassle free this summer.

The Met Office has warned that the weather this year could be 'unusual', with many forecasters predicting that this year's Jubilee celebrations could be hampered by bad weather.

Vehicle safety should be a top priority for motorists during all weather seasons. Whilst it can be easy to let car maintenance slip, it's vital that regular checks are made to ensure your safety.

Asda Money offers a range of breakdown cover options which could assist you in your hour of need should you breakdown or have an accident.

Asda Money top tips for keeping your car well maintained:

  1. Check the tyres

Over time, constant road usage will wear down tyres. It would be advisable to regularly check your tyres to see that they meet the legal requirement tread depth of 1.6 mm. It's recommended that tyres should be replaced if the tread depth reach's 2mm.

  1. Breaks

Your breaks should be checked to ensure they are in working order. Faulty brakes could lead to an accident, which could have easily been avoided. As well as the foot breaks you should also check the hand break for excessive wear.

  1. Seat belt

The seat belt should never be overlooked, as it's a vital part of keeping the driver and passenger secure. Seat belts can often wear down and so it would be worth replacing them if they become frayed, ripped or show signs of wear and tear. When travelling with children, check to see that the seat belts are fitted correctly.

  1. Breakdown cover

One way to provide peace of mind and additional safety would be to take out sufficient breakdown cover. If in the event of a breakdown, you could be able to call out for roadside repair or have your car taken to the nearest garage, or a destination of your choice.
