ASG Supports Brain Tumor Research Through Country Heir Horse Show Sponsorship

LEXINGTON, KY--(Marketwire - June 6, 2008) - ASG Software Solutions, a global leader in business solutions for information technology, has extended its philanthropic efforts to benefit brain tumor research through its sponsorship of the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) Hunter Derby at Lexington's Country Heir Horse Show.

All proceeds from the show's Hunter Derby Class, to be held at Kentucky Horse Park on June 14, will be donated to the National Brain Tumor Foundation (NBTF), a nationwide 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research and providing patient resources.

"Five hundred adults and children are diagnosed with brain tumors every day in the United States," says ASG President and CEO Arthur Allen. "These are courageous individuals who deserve a good quality of life. That's the goal of the NBTF, and we wanted to help."

In its mission to service brain tumor patients and their families, the NBTF provides medical information specialists, caregiver training, financial support, educational programs, and support networks. Each month the Foundation responds to more than 1,000 telephone calls and receives more than 60,000 hits on its website.

According to the NBTF, brain tumors are particularly complicated to treat because there are more than 120 different types of brain tumors, and those in children differ from those in adults. To develop a variety of effective treatments requires intensive research -- a cause to which NBTF has awarded more than $5 million since its founding in 1981.

ASG's equine-associated philanthropy extends beyond the Country Heir Horse Show. As the title sponsor of the entire 2008/2009 USHJA International Hunter Derby Member Event Series, ASG supports the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA). Headquartered in Denver, Colo., NARHA provides equine-assisted activity and therapy programs in the United States and Canada to more than 38,000 disabled individuals per year.

Allen was initially attracted to both NARHA and the NBTF because of their programs for children.

"Helping children is a cause ASG has always valued above all others," Allen says. "When I learned that brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor death in children, I knew we needed to get involved. Although nearly 70 percent of children survive, they are often left with long-term side effects. That's why it was important for us to form a relationship with the NBTF: the Foundation supports brain tumor patients throughout their entire life process."
