Asian Nations Consular Panel Discussion With People's Republic of China, Malaysia and Pakistan During World Affairs Council of Orange County Dinner

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - December 5, 2007) - The event, hosted by the non-profit organization, the World Affairs Council of Orange County, is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12 at the Irvine Marriott Hotel at 18000 Von Karman, Irvine, Ca. 92612. The topic will be "Security Challenges to Asian Nations." The reception will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a dinner presentation at 7 p.m. and a Q&A after the speech. The public is invited to attend.

Asia faces challenges that are of concern not only to the parties most immediately involved, but to the rest of us as well. Join us as we hear directly from the Asian nations through their consular representatives. People's Republic of China - Ambassador Zhang Yun joined the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles in 2007. He was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Singapore since 2004. Malaysia - Ahmad Anwar Adnan assumed the post as Consul General of Malaysia in Los Angeles in September 2005. Prior to his arrival, he was a Principal Assistant Secretary in the Social and Cultural Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. Pakistan - Syed Ibne Abbas, Consul General joined the Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles in August 2006. Prior to his present assignment, he served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad as Director General from 2004-2006. Dr. Patrick Morgan will serve as Panel Moderator. He holds the position of Tierney Chair and Acting Director of the Global Peace and Conflict Studies Center at the University of California, Irvine. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees to the World Affairs Council of Orange County.

The World Affairs Council of Orange County is a member-driven non-profit organization that hosts forums on international issues and presentations by some of the world's foremost leaders. Past speakers have included: Ambassador Robert Tuttle, U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James; Said Tayeb Jawad, Afghanistan's Ambassador to the U.S.; H.R. McMaster, 71st Colonel, 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment and John Hofmeister, President of Shell Oil.
