Astro-Med Introduces High Bandwidth, Multi-Channel Portable Recorder

WEST WARWICK, RI--(Marketwire - September 24, 2007) - The Test & Measurement Product Group of Astro-Med, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALOT) today announced it has introduced a powerful new portable data recorder. The Dash 32HF, as the recorder is called, is the newest model in Astro-Med's highly successful "Dash" family of portable data recorders.

According to the company, the Dash 32HF is the first system of its kind to record 32 channels of data directly to hard drive at sample rates of 500 kHz per channel in an ultra-compact system. Acknowledging that other recorder brands claim higher sample rates directly to hard drive, Peter Nadeau, Test & Measurement Product Group Product Manager, said, "While many systems claim to save data to hard drive at these fast rates, we believe the Dash 32HF is the first system of its kind that provides sustained capture to hard drive with this many channels at these sample rates."

Nadeau added, "The Dash series is synonymous with portable, rugged data recorders and the Dash 32HF strengthens an already strong product line." Designed for applications ranging from transient capture to remote troubleshooting, the Dash 32HF is portable and rugged enough to handle harsh environments. Weighing just 22 pounds, the system is ideally suited for applications in the automotive, electric utility, pulp and paper, metals manufacturing, steel mills, and other industrial where portability is required.

An optional high security version designated the Dash 32HF-HS is available for defense and aerospace applications. The high security version includes locking, removable hard drives for securing confidential data. Commenting on this version, Nadeau said, "The high security version is critical to the success of the Dash 32HF in defense and aerospace markets. Many of these customers are testing highly classified systems and cannot use a data recording system unless they can easily secure their data after a test."

Astro-Med, known for its portable and rackmount data systems, introduced its first Dash series portable recorder in 1973 and has produced several generations of data recorders since that time. Early systems were paper-based, while today's recorders focus much more on digital technology. Commented Nadeau, "Over the years, we have adapted our products as our customers' requirements have changed. Although some customers still record data on paper, the majority of customers prefer to view data on a large, color display, save it to hard drive and export it to their PC for detailed analysis."

Astro-Med has a broad lined of portable data recorders, including the Dash 8Xe 8-channel data recorder, the Dash 8HF 8-channel high frequency data recorder, the Dash 8XPM power monitor/data recorder, the Dash 18X 18-channel data recorder and the new Dash 32HF 32-channel high frequency data recorder.

Astro-Med, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of products that are employed around the world for industrial and scientific test and measurement applications, for product identification applications in consumer and industrial markets, and for clinical and research purposes in the field of life sciences.
