AT&T Supports Meal Exchange With Funding and Volunteer Hours in Canada

Not-for-Profit Names AT&T Supporter of the Year

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - Sep 5, 2013) - AT&T* has been selected as Meal Exchange's 2013 Supporter of the Year, an honor awarded by the Canadian national youth-driven charity for AT&T's outstanding financial and service contributions throughout the past year. As an example of its ongoing support to the organization, AT&T recently announced an AT&T CARES donation of $5,000 and 48 service hours from employee volunteerism, helping the organization engage, educate and mobilize youth to work with their communities across Canada to alleviate hunger locally and achieve food security.

The contribution is part of a special initiative that awards local funding based on the nominations of AT&T employee groups. The AT&T CARES Special Contribution Program, established in 2007, gives these groups, with a strong record of volunteerism, the ability to identify non-profits making a local impact. This year, through the nominations of AT&T Pioneer chapters, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and international regions, AT&T plans to provide $255,000 in contributions to 51 organizations globally.

The latest AT&T CARES contribution from AT&T on behalf of employees in Canada builds on AT&T's ongoing commitment to Meal Exchange and will assist in the student-led charity's engagement of university students in campus and community service programs that provide adequate food for those suffering from hunger.

"The issue of hunger is something that requires consistent support," said Peter Kapler, Executive Director, Meal Exchange. "We are very thankful for AT&T's employee engagement and funding contributions to support the community service and university campus programs designed to provide adequate food for those suffering from hunger."

"Meal Exchange continues to do tremendous work to help alleviate hunger in Canada," said David Aspinall, Sales Vice President of AT&T Global Services in Canada. "We are thrilled that our employees continue to lend their support to this student-led organization, and we are honored to be recognized as Meal Exchange's Supporter of the Year."

At AT&T, Community Engagement means engaging employees to build strong, connected, and thriving communities. It's designing tools and initiatives that unleash human capabilities to create a healthy business environment and ensure that we listen to and support the communities in which we operate.

Employee volunteerism programs are part of the platform of initiatives provided by AT&T Community Engagement for employees to volunteer, give money, and engage in issues facing the communities where we do business. Each year, AT&T employees and retirees take time to enhance their communities. In 2012, 5.8 million volunteer hours were donated by employees and retirees for a total of $129 million dollars associated with volunteerism.
