ATCO Energy Theatre Launches New Mobile App to Help Promote Safety With Kids

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - May 5, 2014) - ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric are inviting youth from across Alberta to boost their safety superpowers with the new mobile app: Safety Quest. As part of its ATCO Energy Theatre safety program, Safety Quest joins the program's existing online games as another entertaining and interactive tool the whole family will enjoy using.

"Safety of the public, our customers and our employees is a core value at ATCO and these ATCO Energy Theatre activities are a tangible part of that commitment," said Bill Stephens, President, ATCO Gas. "We're excited to expand our ATCO Energy Theatre program to include a mobile app that will reinforce important safety messages to students across the province."

"We believe the ATCO Energy Theatre games and mobile app are a particularly effective method to communicate to this audience in this hi-tech world," said Bobbi Lambright, President, ATCO Electric. "The app engages both parents and children in the Safety Quest activities, helping to make their homes safe from dangers and better prepared for emergency situations."

The Safety Quest mobile app is a real-world gas and electrical safety game combining ATCO's safety principles and information with quest-style activities. Players are rewarded by successfully completing items on different safety checklists starring the superhero characters featured in the ATCO Energy Theatre safety program. The mobile app will be promoted to students across the province during the ATCO Energy Theatre touring show, Power Game with the Blue Flame, and at community events during Emergency Preparedness Week (May 5 - 11). Safety Quest is free to download now on iTunes and Google Play and is available on the ATCO Energy Theatre website www.atcoenergytheatre.com.

Since its introduction in 2007, ATCO Energy Theatre has "edu-tained" over 97,000 students, teachers and school principals in every corner of the province. The tour has visited several smaller schools in more remote areas of the province, giving many students their first exposure to the performing arts and live educational theatre using song and dance to deliver a very serious safety message. In 2012, the Canadian Gas Association awarded the ATCO Energy Theatre program with its Public Safety Award recognizing the program as an excellent source for natural gas safety education and public awareness in Canada.
