ATCO Ltd.: Ready for Launch-A Yukon Waterway Legend

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 11, 2008) - One of ATCO Group's oldest companies, Yukon Electrical Company Limited is pleased to announce the re-launching of the historic "M.V. Dorothy."

Today, the M.V. Dorothy, a 33-foot wooden motor vessel built in 1932, returns to the Yukon waters where it was first sailed by Yukon Electrical Limited more than three quarters of a century ago. It has been restored to its original design and character, embodying the unique spirit of the Yukon.

Nancy Southern, President and Chief Executive Officer, ATCO Group, together with Yukon Deputy Premier, Elaine Taylor and other invited guests, will launch the boat at a special ceremony at 4:00 pm. The ceremony will take place at the MV Schwatka Launch area, approximately one half hour south of Whitehorse, Yukon.

"The Dorothy has a rich and colourful history representative of the Yukon and her uniquely diversified people," Ms. Southern said. "It gives ATCO and our Yukon Electrical Company Limited, great pride to return the Dorothy to Whitehorse in this pristinely restored state for all Yukoners and visitors to remember the stories of her past, and it is my hope that she will also serve as a reminder of ATCO Group's commitment to Yukon's future."

The M.V. Dorothy was originally constructed by the warden of the British Columbia Penitentiary and some of its prisoners. It eventually became the property of Yukon Electrical Company Limited. In addition to her service with the Yukon Electrical Company, the M.V. Dorothy has had many roles over the last eight decades. She has sailed as a research vessel and was seconded by the US military who kept her under US command throughout World War II. She sank twice but once again, she is ready for sail.

Today's celebration includes a scenic ride on the M.V. Dorothy.

ATCO Group, an Alberta-based worldwide organization of companies with assets of approximately $8.2 billion and more than 7,800 employees, is comprised of three main business divisions: Power Generation; Utilities (natural gas and electricity transmission and distribution) and Global Enterprises (industrial manufacturing, technology, logistics and energy services).
