ATCO Sustainable Communities (ATCO) announced today that it has signed a contract with the Piikani Nation to construct a 36,000 sq. ft. multipurpose centre in Brocket, Alta.

"The Piikani Nation has been a longstanding partner with ATCO through the Oldman River hydroelectric project," said Boris Rassin, President, ATCO Sustainable Communities. "Today, we expand our partnership to provide an important community facility using advanced technologies that will make it the finest multipurpose centre in the area."

The new facility will be equipped to host a variety of recreational activities, providing space for Piikani Nation community members to gather and engage in a healthy and active lifestyle year-round. Once complete, the facility will include an ice rink, dressing rooms, a concession, community meeting space and offices.

"This facility represents a new horizon in economic growth and prosperity for the Piikani people," said Chief Stan Charles Grier. "It will not only bring our people together for a variety of occasions, but it will also keep more recreational funding dollars within the community supporting our growth and sustainability. This new facility will be the heartbeat of our community."

The facility will be constructed using ATCO's modular units for the dressing rooms and offices, within an engineered Performance Arena membrane shell produced by Sprung and augmented by R30 insulation, plasma lighting and Odorox™ air purification systems.

With more than 3,500 members, the Piikani Nation is one of the largest Alberta First Nations and is located 200 km south of Calgary, Alta. within the Treaty 7 traditional territory.
