ATCO to Supply Rio Tinto Alcan With 1,500-Person Workforce Housing Facility

Construction village will provide sleeping quarters, dining and recreation facilities for workers in Kitimat, BC

KITIMAT, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2011) - ATCO Structures & Logistics has been awarded a contract to design and build a 1,500-person workforce housing facility for Rio Tinto Alcan Inc. The Kitimat Modernization Project (KMP) Construction Village will provide accommodation and amenities to workers at Rio Tinto Alcan's smelter rebuild project in Kitimat, BC. The contract was awarded by Bechtel, the engineering firm hired by Rio Tinto Alcan to oversee the project.

"This is a significant project for the Kitimat community and we are extremely pleased that ATCO has been chosen to provide accommodation facilities for this world-class project," said Harry Wilmot, President & Chief Operating Officer, ATCO Structures & Logistics. Phase one of the KMP Construction Village will be built in 2011 and will house up to 500 people. The modular units, which have been designed to meet Kitimat's heavy snow loads, will be built at ATCO Structures & Logistics' manufacturing plant in Calgary and transported to Kitimat. When completed, the Kitimat Construction Village will include comfortable sleeping quarters with TVs and internet connectivity, a kitchen, dining room, laundry area and a recreation complex, including a gym and meeting areas.
