ATI Drives High Definition Content in Acer's HD-DVD Notebook

MARKHAM, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 5, 2006) -

Acer's new Aspire 5670 HD-DVD notebook uses ATI's Mobility™ Radeon® X1600 featuring Avivo™ video and display technology to take portable entertainment and mobile computing into the HD era

ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY) (NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that Acer has selected ATI's leading Mobility™ Radeon® X1600 graphics processor for its new Aspire 5670 HD-DVD enabled notebook to offer leading edge portable entertainment and HD-DVD playback capabilities.

ATI's Mobility Radeon X1600 is ideal for achieving advanced graphics performance in a thin-and-light notebook while delivering enhanced 3D gaming, high quality video playback, and longer battery life. The X1600, equipped with ATI's Avivo™ high definition video and display enhancement technology, ensures the Aspire 5670 delivers unparalleled performance and top-notch mobile entertainment.

As devices rely more heavily on graphics performance and improved graphics capabilities to drive the digital home, the demand for high quality visual content has increased. To meet this need, Acer's Aspire 5670 combines all the computing power of a leading notebook with out-of-this-world multimedia and digital entertainment capabilities. The Aspire 5670 is among the first notebooks from Acer as well as the industry, to support the HD-DVD format.

Combined with ATI's Mobility Radeon X1600 and an Intel® Core™ Duo CPU, the Aspire 5670 provides end users with a stunning visual experience when watching HD-DVDs, playing games or enjoying other multimedia content such as images or digital video.

"Acer is a mobile computing leader, and as a leader we wanted to be one of the first to enhance the multimedia notebook experience by supporting HD-DVD through the introduction of these innovative notebook designs," said Campbell Kan, Head of Acer Notebook Business, Acer. "And to drive the best possible visual experience for our end users, we looked to ATI and its industry-leading Avivo technology to ensure the Aspire 5670 is a force to be reckoned with."

"ATI is focused on the visual experience, and powering HD content on the Acer Aspire 5670 is a great example of how we drive graphics innovation for our partners," said Philip G. Eisler, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Chipset and Notebook Business Unit, ATI Technologies "As new content such as HD-DVD becomes more readily available to consumers, great graphics become even more important. With that in mind, ATI has worked hard to ensure that our graphics technologies are one step ahead and as HD content becomes more readily available, your ATI hardware is ready to meet your needs and exceed your expectations."

ATI Technologies will be showcasing the Acer Aspire 5670 at Computex, in Taipei, Taiwan from June 6th to 10th.
