Atlanta Area Dentists Offering Comfortable Sleep Apnea Appliances

MARIETTA, GA --(Marketwired - April 29, 2016) - Do you wake up at night gasping for air or find yourself feeling groggy throughout the day? Dental patients in Atlanta can find a simple solution to their snoring and sleep issues at Atlanta West Dentistry.

The dentists at Atlanta West Dentistry are trained to offer comfortable oral appliances, which resemble a mouthguard, for patients suffering from a common condition known as obstructive sleep apnea, as well as for snoring issues. One in five adults has mild obstructive sleep apnea, and 75 percent of obstructive sleep apnea cases remain undiagnosed. Oral appliances are ideal for patients who cannot deal with cumbersome and uncomfortable CPAP machines, the traditional treatment for sleep apnea.

"Since we've been offering this service, we have been surprised by how many of our patients are candidates for sleep appliances and have had difficulties with CPAP devices during sleep," said Dr. Travis Watson, who operates Atlanta West Dentistry with his wife, Dr. Cameron Watson. "Our diagnostic process is simple and noninvasive. It involves taking a special cone beam 3-D image to assess the patient's airway space, and from there we can plan your entire treatment and build an oral appliance."

People with untreated obstructive sleep apnea have a higher risk of traffic accidents, heart disease and stroke. Atlanta West Dentistry began offering the oral appliances one year ago, and patients were relieved to have an alternative to CPAP machines, Dr. Travis Watson said. The device is customized for each patient and moves the lower jaw forward to open the airway.

"Helping our patients with their sleep quality has a huge medical benefit, and the sleeping partners for our patients have been the most thankful because they are also sleeping better," Dr. Travis Watson said. "Since starting sleep appliance therapy, we have been able to help hundreds of people get better quality sleep and improve their overall health in the process. It has been truly rewarding for our dental team to see these transformations."

Atlanta West Dentistry, 1808 Powder Springs Rd. SW, is a state-of-the-art office built in 2013. Dr. Travis Watson and Dr. Cameron Watson use the latest techniques and technology to provide thorough and compassionate dental care to all their patients.

The Atlanta dental practice offers the cosmetic solution Invisalign, which uses clear aligners to gradually move teeth into a more appropriate position; dental implants to replace missing teeth; laser dentistry to treat patients with gum disease; and comfortable digital impressions. The staff also uses a handheld device known as The Wand to deliver local anesthesia without pain.
