Atlific Hotels & Resorts: Management Contract Announced for the Vancouver Island Conference Centre

Atlific Hotels & Resorts adds to portfolio

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - April 11, 2007) - The City of Nanaimo announced it has appointed Atlific Hotels & Resorts as the management company for the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in Nanaimo, British Columbia, scheduled to open late spring, 2008.

The three level 38,000 square foot Vancouver Island Conference Centre, currently under construction, is situated in downtown Nanaimo, just steps away from the harbour front. "We are extremely proud to have been chosen to lead this major development for Vancouver Island that will host large conferences and add to the growing Nanaimo economy," stated Robert Leoppky, Regional Operations Manager Western Region, Atlific Hotels & Resorts. "VICC will bring additional visitors to the area hotels and businesses and will create new jobs directly and indirectly," added Leoppky.

The 38,000 sq ft Vancouver Island Conference Centre will feature industry leading technology and inspiring Ocean views. The Upper Level will house a 13,697 sq ft divisible ballroom plus five multi-purpose meeting rooms. The upper level will provide walkway access to the new 200-seat Shaw Auditorium plus a 1,868 sq ft divisible meeting room. The Street Level will showcase the newly built 16,000 sq ft Nanaimo Museum, 2,658 sq ft of meeting space, a business centre, and access to the downtown shops and restaurants. The facility includes 600 parking spaces on the lower level with freight elevator access to the street and upper levels. "With room for 1,300 delegates, spacious pre-function areas on all levels, and leading technology, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre will become a preferred venue for British Columbia associations and Canadian government and corporate conferences," stated Leoppky.

"Accessibility is key for large conferences and Nanaimo is easily accessed by road from Vancouver Island, by air from Vancouver International Airport and by float plane from Vancouver Harbour" stated Leoppky, adding "a choice of ferries from just north (Horseshoe Bay) or just south (Tsawwassen) of Vancouver allows delegates to avoid downtown congestion and arrive in Nanaimo after a short 80-120 minute ferry ride."

"The proven systems of Atlific management, and our experience with large meeting facilities such as Deerhurst Resort (44,000 sq ft), Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain (29,000 sq ft), and the future Westin Montreal (28,000 sq ft), led to this appointment," stated Robert Chartrand, Executive Vice President and CFO, Atlific Hotels & Resorts, adding, "our vast network of sales personnel and the marketing and e-commerce team across Canada and the United States will increase the conference centre's ability to promote its services".

In conjunction, Atlific Hotels & Resorts announces the appointment of Mr. Jim Owens as Director of Sales for the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

"Mr. Owens joins the team bringing a stellar background in sales," stated Leoppky, adding "ten years with John Labatt Ltd., and 19 years with the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre in a number of senior management positions, including Director of Sales and COO make him the perfect choice to lead the sales and marketing initiatives for this project."
