Attention Assignment Editors; Media Advisory: Hundreds of Metis Citizens Set to Gather for Major Health Announcement in Kelowna

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 23, 2007) - The Metis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) will announce at its 10th AGM in Kelowna that it has received funding for the Aboriginal ActNow BC strategy, a partnership-based, community-focused cross-ministry health promotion initiative designed to address chronic disease and injury risk factors in the Aboriginal community. The Provincial Ministry of Health, through the National Collaborative Centre for Aboriginal Health, is working with the MNBC to develop culturally relevant pilot projects in each of the seven MNBC regions.

The MNBC AGM will host over 500 Metis citizens to vote on resolutions, participate in trade and talent shows, and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Metis Nation in BC.

The BC United Metis Youth Circle (BCUMYC) will also hold its ninth Annual Youth Meeting from Sept. 19 - 21 in conjunction with the MNBC AGM in Kelowna. The BCUMYC will host Metis youth delegates in a series of meetings, workshops and celebratory events during the AYM.
