Attn - rescheduled: Mounted Police Foundation supports local cadets

Attention: News Editor VANCOUVER, BC, MEDIA ADVISORY--(CCNMatthews - March 31, 2006) - A parade and presentation to celebrate a $10,000 donation to Vancouver's Navy League Cadets has been rescheduled to Friday, April 7, from Friday, March 31, due to a military exercise.

Nearly 100 children enrolled in Vancouver's Navy League Cadets will benefit from a $10,000 donation from the Mounted Police Foundation. The Navy League Cadet program encourages patriotism, good citizenship, a sense of duty, discipline and self-respect in young Canadians aged 9-13.

"The money will be used in part to get new uniforms - in some cases their shirts are literally falling to pieces," said Lt (NL) David REECE, Commanding Officer of the Navy League Cadet Corps, Captain Rankin. The donation will also be used to purchase new equipment for training programs such as boating safety and first aid courses.

Lt (NL) Reece is hoping the cadet's new uniforms will be available in time for the Battle of the Atlantic parade on first Sunday in May.

Inspector Brad DESMARAIS of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will formally present the cheque to Lt (NL) Reece on behalf of the Mounted Police Foundation on Friday, April 7 2006 at 20:30 hrs. The presentation will be proceeded by a musical parade of the full ship's company of cadets at 19:00 hrs.

Navy League Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their communities. They learn valuable life and work skills in a nautical environment while increasing their self-confidence and physical fitness, and learning how to take initiative and make decisions.
