Audi Optimizes Information and Communication Management With IBM WebSphere Portal

STUTTGART, GERMANY and ARMONK, NY--(Marketwire - November 27, 2007) - IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that car maker Audi has deployed a comprehensive portal platform based on IBM WebSphere Portal to serve as a central, unified and multilingual access point for all Audi employees worldwide, with content customized to employee roles.

Based in Ingolstadt, Germany, Volkswagen-owned Audi had to address the challenge of deploying new procedures as internationalization created the need for corporate change, as well as streamlining employee activities and administrative Human Resource Management (HRM) tasks.

Audi now relies on WebSphere Portal to create a central platform that allows all work and business processes to be handled without re-entering data or switching from one medium to another, thus making these processes quicker and more efficient.

In addition to accessing business applications, employees can now utilize personalized desktops through the portal platform, allowing them to perform administrative tasks such as applying for time off or booking flights.

"Our aim was to provide new technologies and online media that would enable our employees to gain comfortable, quick, Web-based access to all relevant services, information and communication offerings," explains Anton Kramm, head of IT Web Solutions at Audi. The benefits of the Audi portal include:

--  A central location for various production locations and international
    subsidiaries of Audi: All Audi employees worldwide now have single-sign on,
    browser-based access to any services and information they might require.
    
--  A convenient tool for employees to manage and customize individual
    work processes: Personalized information and processes are presented to
    each employee, which are tailored to their individual roles and
    responsibilities, and delivered through portlets that provide relevant
    information and procedures to their specific assignments.
    
--  Reduction of administrative processes: Audi reduced the number of HTML
    pages in the intranet from 240,000 to 40,000 -- with no loss of content --
    and decreased the number of applications by introducing standard solutions
    such as content and document management systems.
    

Audi plans to continue evolving its portal strategy by developing "process portals" and integrating newer functions such as collaboration services and knowledge structuring.
