Audi RS 5 Wins Men's Journal 'Gear of the Year' Award

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - Dec 18, 2012) - The 2013 Audi RS 5 has been named a winner of the annual 'Gear of the Year' awards by Men's Journal. Featured in the magazine's December 2012 issue, the Audi RS 5 was honored for its athletic design, high-end performance, practical drivability and class-leading fuel efficiency. Each year, experts from Men's Journal test hundreds of new products from a variety of categories, including, automotive, technology, sports and fitness and more.

"Consumers are clearly responding to the outstanding performance, elegant styling and athletic identity of the Audi RS 5. Nearly all RS 5 models have already sold since it was introduced in August of this year," said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. "We are thrilled to have been honored by Men's Journal with a 2012 'Gear of the Year' award, a testament to the design and power of the RS 5."

The Audi RS 5 features a high-revving 4.2-liter V8 that delivers 450 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque, propelling the RS 5 from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. A seven-speed S tronic® transmission with launch control enhances performance, boosting the RS 5 to an electronically-governed top track speed of 174 mph. Efficiency is also enhanced with a class-leading 19 city / 30 highway / 22 combined fuel economy without the penalty of a gas guzzler tax.

The Audi drive select system adjusts the vehicle's transmission shift characteristics, throttle response, dynamic steering and sports differential. The driver can select from auto, comfort, dynamic and individual settings, making the RS 5 equally adept for a weekend excursion or a day on the track.

The self-locking crown-gear center differential is compact and lightweight and attains a high efficiency ratio. Thanks to its package of plates, the differential can vary the distribution of torque widely between the front and rear axles. If necessary, up to 70 percent can flow to the front or as much as 85 percent toward the tail end. The 40:60 ratio of the standard rear-biased configuration ensures sporty handling. This new differential operates in conjunction with electronic torque vectoring. As a perfect complement to the new quattro® drivetrain, the sport differential at the rear axle is standard.
