Audi Veterans to Technicians Employment Program Gains Momentum Across America

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwired - Nov 11, 2013) -

  • Audi of America program matches U.S. Armed Forces Veterans with opportunities in dealership service.
  • The program has received over 1,000 applicants; Audi anticipates hiring hundreds of Veterans to begin careers in dealerships.
  • The majority of Audi dealers are enrolled in the program; requests for Veteran technicians are on the rise to keep pace with record product growth.

The Audi Veterans to Technicians program has received more than 1,000 applications from all over the world since the program's launch on July 1, 2013. The majority of Audi's dealers are participating in the program and over 35% of all new technicians hired by the brand in the past month were Veterans. Audi anticipates hiring hundreds of Veterans to meet dealership service and parts functional requirements each year as the brand continues to experience record growth.

Audi is attracting highly skilled former military personnel to begin challenging and rewarding new careers as Audi certified Service Technicians, Service Consultants, Shop Foreman, and Parts Specialists in dealerships across the country. When asked what drew them to the program, Veterans repeatedly emphasize their interest in the challenge and opportunity to work on the most sophisticated cars in the world. Those hired to date have an average of 11.5 years of experience, along with a great aptitude of mechanical know-how, dedication, and loyalty.

Audi dealerships want to hire Veterans because they view them as a natural fit with the brand. Service and General Managers appreciate the skills, experience, maturity, integrity, and work ethic that Veterans bring to the organization, which ultimately translates to a better customer experience. Good technicians are in great demand throughout the automotive industry, and Veterans bring a level of commitment and leadership to the dealer that is simply unsurpassed.

"As Audi continues its growth trajectory, the demand for technicians also increases," said Reinhard Fischer, Director of Strategy, Audi of America. "The Audi Veterans to Technicians program helps to fill the immediate need for Audi retailers who are expecting higher demand for service technicians, shop foremen, and service consultants. We are excited and encouraged by the initial response of the program, and are looking forward to watching the program flourish."

Veterans to Technicians Spotlight:
Shawn Douglas, a retired Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) of the U.S. Army, was deployed four times, three of which were to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. Sean was the first person employed in the Audi Veterans to Technicians Program and is currently a Service Technician for Bob Moore Audi in Oklahoma City, OK.

Erica Perry is a Navy Veteran who was deployed twice in her five years of service, to Romania and to Christmas Island (Territory of Australia). Erica is the first woman employed in the program and is an Apprentice Technician for Audi of San Francisco.

Support for the Veterans to Technicians program
The Audi Veterans to Technicians Program benefits from the Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) to Hire Heroes Act passed by the U.S. Congress in November 2011. That act provides enhanced federal support in the form of special benefits and tax credits for Veterans and their employers.

Veteran applicants receive hands-on coaching and interview preparation assistance. Those hired attend the Audi Fast Track Training Program to become brand certified. Hired Veterans also qualify for a special tool purchase program sponsored by Audi and Snap-on Tools.

The program was developed by Audi of America with CALIBRE Systems, Inc. to link Veterans with career opportunities with Audi, while also supporting Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs military transition initiatives.
