AUM Ayurveda: Personality-Based Diets Enhance Wellbeing

AUM Ayurveda, an Ayurvedic Approach That Encourages the Use of Authentic, Universal and Meditative Elements, Supports Diets Based Upon Individual Needs

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Mar 21, 2013) - AUM Ayurveda is an Ayurvedic philosophy that calls upon diet, yoga, meditation and other tools to assist individuals in improving wellbeing through personalized care. Because diet is a major component of a well-developed Ayurvedic treatment plan, Vaidya Priyanka, who espouses this approach, has recently released a statement in support of personality-based dietary changes. ZAGAT has reported on a pop-up dinner hosted in San Francisco based on such a philosophy, and Vaidya Priyanka encourages Ayurvedic practitioners across the country to support these events.

According to the article, Amber Dhara hosted a pop-up dinner focused on the Ayurvedic medical tradition. Nalini Mehta, an Ayurvedic cooking instructor, and Vittal Shetty, chef at Amber Dhara, partnered with one another to create a four-course vegetarian menu. This menu featured prix fixe items that could be tailored to the personalities of individual diners. Diners took a personality quiz when they sent in their RSVP so that the individuals preparing their meals could offer them dishes finely tuned to their personality types.

With pop-up dinners and other such culinary events, such as food trucks, becoming increasingly popular, Vaidya Priyanka and other practitioners at AUM Ayurveda are encouraging practitioners of this traditional Indian philosophy to engage in these activities and enhance the visibility of this lifestyle.

"The goal of Ayurvedic medicine is to help people improve their lives by creating a stronger connection or balance between the body and the mind," explains Priyanka. "The foods that people consume play a major role in this, as they directly impact the body. As a result, it is important for individuals to cater to their unique needs in terms of their diet if they wish to live longer and well."

Vaidya Priyanka goes on to explain that Ayurvedic medicine also calls upon yoga and meditation to assist in building the mind/body connection. A weakening of this connection is seen as the cause of many physical illnesses, and yoga and meditation are both restorative and preventative activities that can, ultimately, improve the wellbeing of individuals.

"Today's medical industry pushes pills and other pharmaceuticals onto people," comments Priyanka, "and, while these medications do have their value, it is important that people explore their natural options before consuming these potentially toxic drugs. I strongly encourage Ayurvedic practitioners to look at the event that has taken place at Amber Dhara as an inspiration for other ways in which they can bring information about the Ayurvedic lifestyle to the attention of a larger population."
