AUMA President's Summit on Community Sustainability

Long term sustainability continues to be at the forefront of AUMA's advocacy initiatives. Helping Alberta's municipalities develop a solid 100-year economic, social and environmental vision to ensure a solid foundation is in place for Alberta's next century, is the focus of this important Summit. There are currently over 250 participants registered for this unprecedented event.

Highlights of the Summit include:

Day one - Tuesday July 19th
11:00 am Bob Hawkesworth, AUMA President
11:10 am Honourable John Godfrey, Minister of State (Infrastructure and Communities)
11:30 am Honourable Ralph Klein, Premier of Alberta
11:40 am Honourable Rob Renner, Minister of Municipal Affairs
1:00 pm Keynote Address - L. Hunter Lovins, President & CEO, Natural Capitalism Inc.
2:00 pm Provincial Perspective on Sustainable Communities- Honourable Dr. Lyle Oberg, Honourable Clint Dunford, Honourable Mike Harcourt

Day two - Wednesday July 20th
8:45 am Keynote Address - David Baxter, Executive Director of the Urban Futures Institute
9:45 am Concurrent Workshops:
1. The Natural Step (Sarah James and Torbjorn Lahti - co-authors of the book The Natural Step for Communities)
2. Sustainable Communities (Gwendolyn Hallsmith - Executive Director of the Global Communities Initiative)
3. Metroquest Planning Tool - Envision Sustainability Tools - Dave Biggs
4:45 pm Closing - Mayor Hugh O'Reilly of the Resort Municipality of Whistler - winner of several prestigious awards for sustainability initiatives.
