Aurea Mining Announces New Mineralized Intercepts From First Phase Drilling on the Aurea Norte Project

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 16, 2005) -

Aurea Mining Inc. (TSX VENTURE:MXA) ("Aurea" or "the Company") is very pleased to report that five of a seven hole, 1,500m drill program on its Coyote claim are now complete. As described in Aurea's final prospectus, dated May 27th, 2005 (, this first phase drill program is focused on the San Luis and Rey David showings, located in the southeastern part of the 100% owned Aurea Norte project, Guerrero State, Mexico, part of the developing Guerrero Gold Belt (GGB).

The drill program is testing targets of gold-iron skarn mineralization similar to that on the adjacent Teck and Goldcorp GGB properties (Filos, Bermejal, Nukay, and El Limon-Los Guajes). The combined deposits have over 9 million ounces gold reported to date. The Rey David and San Luis showings are located on strike about 8km NW of the plus 3M oz El Limon-Los Guajes deposit.

First phase drilling has successfully intersected three mineralized horizons with strong similarities to the gold iron skarn deposits of the district. Drillhole SL-001 is collared on an outcrop of jasperoid that returned 8.05 gm/ton gold. The drillhole intersected oxidized jasperoid breccia from 0.0 to 5.90m downhole. SL-003 was drilled 100m ESE of SL-001 and, intersected a similar jasperoid unit from 24.0m to 60.1m for a total downhole length of 36.10 m. Drillhole SL-005 located 1.3 km to the southwest of SL-003 intersected similar silicified vuggy jasperoid breccia from 0.0 m to 36.20m for a total downhole length of 36.20m. Assay results are expected before the end of August.
