Aurea Mining Inc. Announces the Appointment of Richard O'C. Whittall as President

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 5, 2005) -


Aurea Mining Inc. (TSX VENTURE:MXA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard O'C. Whittall as President of the Company. Mr. Whittall, a current director of Aurea, assumes his new duties with responsibility for Aurea's corporate development of its significant mineral properties, within the Guerrero Gold Belt ("GGB") in the State of Guerrero, Mexico.

Mr. Whittall is an investment banker based in Vancouver, British Columbia. His background includes serving as a past director of Miranda Mining Corp. from 1995 until its sale to Wheaton River Minerals (Goldcorp) in 2003. Mr. Whittall has participated in a diverse range of corporate activities, including mergers and acquisitions and completion of several major corporate financings in Canada. He currently serves as a director of several public and private companies, and holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and University of Cambridge.

The Aurea management team consists of Mr. Enrique Miranda-Paz (Chairman & CEO), Dr. David Euresti-Reyna (Director & VP Corporate Affairs), Salvador Miranda (Chief Financial Officer), Alfonso Martinez-Vera (V.P. Exploration & General Manager), and Ms. Gillian Kearvell (VP Corporate Development). Aurea's board members include Dr. Klaus Zeitler, Ken Thorsen, Mauricio Miranda-Alvarez, and Joseph Fodor.

Aurea Mining Inc., via its wholly-owned subsidiary headquartered in Mexico City, is actively exploring for gold within its 100% owned land position in the gold-rich area of southern Mexico known as the Guerrero Gold Belt, in Guerrero State, Mexico. Aurea's land position engulfs 11 intrusions with similar geological settings as the El Limon-Los Guajes, Ana Paula, Nukay, Los Filos, El Bermejal and La Verde that are respectively under exploration and development by Teckcominco, Goldcorp, and Grupo Mexico.
