Austin Cancer Centers Doctor Chosen as the Oncologist for the Austin Police Department Medical Advisory Board

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Jan 30, 2014) - Our police force gives so much to us as a city, and Austin Cancer Centers is excited to announce that Dr. Brian Shimkus, one of our physicians, has been chosen to serve on a program that helps give back to the police force and their families. The newly founded medical advisory board aims to help take care of the people that risk their lives taking care of us.

The idea for medical advisory boards began in New York City after 9/11 -- the idea was to assist police departments and their families. Since the idea started, it has grown to many police stations throughout the country. In Austin, the program will soon expand to include the fire department. The program places an emphasis on getting officers back to work quickly by giving them V.I.P treatment, including reduced office wait time and increased doctor/specialist availability.

Dr. Jonathan Sheinberg, a cardiologist here in Austin, founded the group. Only the best physicians in the city are chosen to be a part of this initiative, and Austin Cancer Center is honored to have one of our own on it. Dr. Shimkus is available to reach for comment at 512.505.5500.
