Authentic8 Debuts "Disposable Browser" Security Service

Each Time Users Connect to Silo for Individuals, They Get a Freshly Built Secure Browser, Mitigating Concerns Over Online Security and Privacy

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 18, 2014) - Authentic8, maker of Silo, the cloud-based secure browser for businesses, has released a new version of its product -- Silo for Individuals -- a "disposable browser" designed specifically to protect consumers. Silo for Individuals builds on the success of Silo Team Edition, a service that has been commercially available since 2013 and embraced by financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, legal and security companies.

Every day, consumers use the browser to access websites that contain highly sensitive and personal information, including banking, credit card, health care data and more. It's a common activity that is largely taken for granted. But beneath the covers of a person's web use lies a collection of underlying technologies that, when taken together, were not designed for comprehensive security. Chief among them is the browser, which is inherently vulnerable due to its exposure to any and all forms of web content. But securing data also relies on the network, DNS, website content, even advertising networks. Users don't know how or if their data has been exposed or where they are being tracked. It is clear that consumers don't have the tools needed to protect them from online risk.

Silo for Individuals was designed to address this problem. The service, available now, allows users to access the web through a cloud-based "disposable browser." Users connect to Silo over an encrypted connection, where a fresh browser is built in a secure sandbox. All web content and browsing information is confined to that sandbox, creating an insulating layer around sensitive data. And when the user closes Silo, all web data is destroyed, ensuring that no malicious code or tracking cookies stay around. Whether accessing from a computer, laptop or iPad, Silo keeps user data separated and isolated from the variety of potential threats on the user's machine and across the Internet.

Additional features include:

  • Integrated management and secure submission of login credentials. No more re-using the same password across websites
  • Control over two-factor authentication for accessing Silo. Users can decide how rigorously they wish to protect access to their accounts, and what devices can be trusted
  • Expanded anonymity capabilities for cookie handling, masking users' IP addresses and browsing habits

"When we started Authentic8, we set out to change how businesses secure and control web based applications," said Scott Petry, CEO at Authentic8. "But with the latest revelations concerning mass surveillance and increased threats from malicious code, we felt that providing secure web access to individuals was just as important. Silo for Individuals is the best way to stay safe, secure and private online."

"We were surprised by the high level of interest in Silo by end users and we're excited to address their needs with a product designed just for them," said Ramesh Rajagopal, president at Authentic8. "Now, consumers will be able to use Silo for their personal computing needs and configure the application to suit their access and security requirements accordingly."

Silo for Individuals costs $10 per month, and is available now at www.authentic8.com.
