Author of Controversial Children's Book Series Asks Parents to Claim Their Independence This July 4th

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - June 23, 2009) - Author Christine Gayle has released "How I Found My Pair," her first book of the Dottie the Sock series. The series is devoted to teaching children to accept and respect themselves and others. The author wants parents to use this July 4th to claim their independence, change their family history, and leave their own legacy.

The author has a clear message she is sending and parents are worried that it just might be the wrong message. "Many parents will not buy my books, due to the fact that Dottie is a lesbian sock. But the parents that decide to change the way they view others and accept others for their differences will change the world forever. We must stand up for what we know to be true. It is our god-given right to be loved!" -- Christine Gayle

The author dedicates her first book to 4 student suicides due to bullying from classmates: Lee Simpson, Lawrence King, Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover, and Jaheem Herrera. "I am not telling kids to date people of different races or to change sexualities. I am saying they simply have the right to date and be friends with whomever they would like, regardless of race, religion, or sexual preference." -- Christine Gayle

"How I Found My Pair" can be ordered online for $7.99 at and $12.99 on The book is also available by special order in select bookstores.
