Author Laurie Notaro to Visit Rio Salado College

Oct. 14 Book Reading Open to the Public

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2011) - Best-selling author Laurie Notaro is bringing her wit and humor to Rio Salado College on Friday, Oct. 14, as she reads (and perhaps acts out) excerpts from her latest book, "It Looked Different on the Model."

"As a teacher I am always digging to find nonfiction writers who connect with our students," said Sandra Marinella, creative writing coordinator at Rio Salado College. "In recent years, Laurie Notaro has been the nonfiction writer of choice for many Rio students."

Marinella approached Notaro at a recent Valley book signing and asked if she would be interested in speaking to creative writing students at the college.

"When we talked after her performance, I off-handedly suggested that she come to Rio Salado to talk to our students," Marinella said. "Laurie enthusiastically scribbled out her email address, handed it to me and replied, 'I would love to.'"

"There's no way I could ever say no to Rio Salado," said Notaro. "They are the only community college in the greater Phoenix area that didn't throw me out!"

Marinella is especially excited for students to meet the exuberant author in person.

"Laurie walked into the bookstore in her characteristic cowboy boots and took over the audience with her quips," Marinella said. "No author has ever made me laugh like that."

Notaro's other works include "The Idiot Girl's Action Adventure Club," "There's a Slight Chance I Might be Going to Hell," and "I Love Everybody (and Other Atrocious Lies)."

The event is free and takes place Friday, Oct. 14 from 7-9 p.m. at the Conference Center at Rio, 2323 W. 14th Street, Tempe. Those interested in attending can RSVP to
