LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 2, 2007 --Southern Californians just saw the largest one-week increase in gas prices so far in 2007, thanks to supply issues affecting California refineries that further contributed to a traditional period of upswings for prices, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.817, which is 12.6 cents higher than last week, 33 cents higher than last month, and 32 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $2.837, which is 12.1 cents above last week's price, 34 cents above last month, and 31 cents above last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.962, up 10.2 cents from last week, 30 cents above last month, and 33 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average price is $2.827, 13.1 cents above last week, 34 cents higher than last month, and 31 cents higher than last year.
"We're into the fourth straight week of price increases, and so far, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "Some of California's supplies are being diverted to assist with shortages in other southwest states, and since supplies are already tight here, this has caused an increase of nearly two cents a day in most areas over the past week."
