In the state of North Carolina, 88 cities including Monroe operate their own electric power systems. Located near Charlotte, Monroe is home to more than 10,500 residential, commercial and industrial customers. The TextPower SmartAlert system is currently being used to manage incoming reports of outages. Beginning in March, customers will be able to opt in to the service to receive alerts on their mobile phone when power is restored.

The city's electric customers are now provided with a dial-in phone number that automatically logs power outages 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, enabling the utility to immediately manage and quickly remediate any outage.
