Autumn Casts an Amber Glow During Ales on Rails

CLARKDALE, AZ--(Marketwired - Jul 4, 2013) - Now in its 10th successful year, Verde Canyon Railroad's Ales on Rails kick starts this hearty harvest season with the vivid colors and robust flavors of fall. This rollicking beer-tasting celebration, originally just a weekend event, has expanded to Thursday through Sunday. Autumn beers boast deeper flavors, aromas and spices than light summertime ales. Let this wildly popular event unleash your craving for vigorous brews that echo the richness of our season's foliage. With something to appeal to every palate, our innovative American-crafted brews and global ambassadors of malt, hops and barley are available for purchase by the taste or by the bottle.

The party starts at 11:00 a.m. on the depot patio with a mouthwatering luncheon of German sausages, sauerkraut, potato salad, pretzels and strudel, all served to the rhythmic tunes of a polka serenade. The 1:00 p.m. train whistle signals the continuation of the party as it moves onto the rails with new specialty beers served onboard, including Verde Canyon Railroad's own private-labeled brews, crafted in Sedona by the renowned Oak Creek Brewery.

It's not just the ales casting an amber glow this time of year; October in Verde Canyon features the first blush of fall complemented by a bounty of late summer wildflowers lingering in the mild, high desert climate. By late October, canopies of butter-colored cottonwoods and willows, bronze sycamores, coppery oaks and scarlet ivies festoon the Verde Canyon with a bright autumn burnish. The season electrifies our senses with an intense transformation.

Comfortable first-class accommodations lavish passengers with luxurious living-room style, including an abundant selection of appetizers and attentive beverage service right to your seat. Coach-class is redolent of vintage-style passenger car charm with a well-stocked snack bar. Both classes have access to open-air viewing cars, a favorite aspect to this rail journey immersing passengers into the sights, sounds and scents of this wild western canyon.

Roll out the barrel, say goodbye to summer, sample a selection of full-bodied harvest brews and enjoy an afternoon of rail hospitality during these most golden days. Only two hours from Phoenix, 25 minutes from Sedona and ten minutes from Jerome AZ, Verde Canyon Railroad is the perfect Arizona day-trip, or if you plan to stay over, ask about our Room, Ride and Meal packages. Trains depart at 1 p.m. daily. Reservations are accepted at 800.293.7245 or online at
