AVAC Investment Supports Healthcare Market Launch of Cleankeys Inc.

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Jan. 18, 2011) - Cleankeys, an emerging Alberta technology company that has produced a one-wipe-clean wireless keyboard, is expanding into global healthcare markets after a significant financial investment from AVAC Ltd., a private not-for-profit company that invests in promising early-stage commercial businesses.

Cleankeys produces a one-wipe-clean wireless keyboard, which is quickly becoming the new global standard in keyboard infection control. AVAC Ltd. selected Cleankeys due to the company's worldwide success in dental operatories with its infection control keyboard. With more than 10,000 units sold, the keyboard is expected to revolutionize the healthcare industry to fight Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs).

The spread of infection in hospitals is a significant problem killing approximately 100,000 patients and costing the North American healthcare system more than $37 billion each year. (i)

"We've seen tremendous success and results in the dental industry, and hospitals represent the next logical market for us," says Randy Marsden, CEO, Cleankeys. "The AVAC investment will help us capitalize on our growing reputation, and enable us to introduce our infection control keyboard to a much larger health market."

"Cleankeys is an excellent example of an inventive Alberta-based technology company that is addressing a global problem," says Jacques LaPointe, Senior Investment Manager, AVAC Ltd. "This opportunity is a strong fit with AVAC's Capacity Builder fund, which is designed to help early stage companies strengthen their intellectual property and take their business to the next level with global market development and expansion."

LaPointe also notes, "Cleankeys has demonstrated the value of their infection control solutions within dental operations in 26 countries, and AVAC is pleased to be able to help them attract investment capital to expand the deployment of their technology into broader healthcare operations."

"Cleankeys' keyboard ticks all my boxes for infection control. Nothing can be caught or trapped in the keyboard, and with the built-in mouse, it's the perfect solution," says Ron Moody, Health and Safety Manager, National Health Service in the UK.

Cleankeys Inc. will use a $1,000,000 investment from AVAC Ltd. to break into the lucrative healthcare market, develop sales channels, and enhance its product line.

"So far, the companies that AVAC has invested in have reported more than $545 million in aggregate project-related sales," says Ross Bricker, President and CEO, AVAC Ltd.
