Avanade Announces Strategic Relationship With Microsoft to Deliver New SQL Server Appliance Solutions

Solutions Designed to Help Large Enterprises Manage "Big Data" in Traditional Datacenters and Cloud Computing Environments

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Dec 20, 2011) - Avanade®, a business technology solutions and managed services provider, today announced a strategic relationship with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) to develop and deliver business intelligence and data warehousing solutions for Microsoft SQL Server. The new data appliances will make it easy for companies to scale their IT infrastructure to meet increasing business needs to turn vast volumes of data into relevant information.

Microsoft will work with Avanade to develop industry solutions specifically for the new Data Warehouse Appliance optimized for SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse. This effort is focused on helping enterprises easily manage their data both on premises and via cloud computing services. Avanade will launch new solutions based on SQL Server for customers in industries such as retail and financial services.

According to Mick Slattery, executive vice president, Global Service Lines at Avanade, "Microsoft's SQL Server is an enterprise-class business intelligence platform well positioned to manage the prolific increase in content and data that is drowning the enterprise. The key is turning data into knowledge to create true competitive advantage. Our relationship with Microsoft will produce industry-specific offerings that further extend the platform's capabilities to help organizations gain greater value from their data by effectively managing, analyzing, and securing data."

As part of this agreement, Avanade will create a dedicated SQL Server Appliance practice to develop solutions and services for the global market. Additionally, Avanade will be training more than 350 developers and sales professionals on the SQL Server appliances platform to support joint offerings and sales efforts. Avanade is the first global systems integrator to create a worldwide practice around SQL Server appliances. This new practice represents a large opportunity, as appliances are expected to account for approximately 40 percent of database growth in the next three years.

Eduardo Rosini, corporate vice president, SQL Server Marketing, at Microsoft said, "With thousands of successful Microsoft implementations worldwide, Avanade has deep expertise in helping customers achieve business results with Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server. Microsoft's work with Avanade will create new appliances and solutions that will streamline and transform data infrastructures. These efforts will help large enterprises use data to improve business performance and better serve their customers."
