Avaya "Technology Cake" Featured on Cake Boss TV Show

On TLC's Hit Television Show, Buddy Valastro Mixes In Avaya Technology to Create 'Cake Videoconferencing'

BASKING RIDGE, NJ--(Marketwire - Jul 26, 2011) -

  • Fully functional cake represents Cake Boss' new high-tech business communications and videoconferencing system
  • Buddy Valastro's latest culinary creation enables videoconferences, phone calls
  • Photos of the cake are now available here

Avaya, a global provider of business collaboration and communications systems and services, was featured on the July 25th episode of TLC's hit television show, Cake Boss, starring famed baker and owner of Carlo's Bakery, Buddy Valastro. Avaya's communications technology inspired Buddy's creation of a customized cake showcasing the innovative Avaya solutions that will be used in his Hoboken and Jersey City, NJ baking facilities.

The multi-layered cake debuted at Avaya's "Think Big" Event for small and medium enterprises in May, and featured realistic, functioning replicas of Avaya phones, videoconferencing solutions and an IP Office control unit atop a long (and edible) conference table. Buddy combined modeling chocolate, cereal treats, fondant and other baking materials with all of the Avaya communications components required to create what Buddy called his "technology cake." The cake served up voice calls from phones modeled from chocolate and a live videoconference between Buddy and Dr. Alan Baratz, SVP and president of Avaya Global Communications Solutions -- before being served up as dessert to event attendees.

Other Facts:

  • Functioning equipment represented on the cake included Avaya IP Office, Avaya 9508 digital and 9650 IP phones, an Avaya B159 conference phone, and videoconferencing monitors with Avaya one-X Communicator. These and other Avaya solutions -- including data, Wi-Fi and wireless phones -- will be implemented in Buddy Valastro's business.
  • The cake took two days to create and involved Buddy Valastro's entire Carlo's Bakery team in consultation with Avaya's channel account manager for small and medium enterprises, Jeff Bloom.
  • The Cake Boss episode featuring Avaya aired Monday, July 25th at 9 pm EST and can be viewed on TLC on demand.
