AVL Jumpstarts Mobile Workforce With Accellion Mobile Collaboration and File Sharing

International Powertrain Provider Enables Secure Mobile Access to Intellectual Property for Increased Business Productivity

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 24, 2014) - Accellion, Inc., the pioneer in providing secure mobile solutions to enterprise organizations that enable increased business productivity, today announced AVL, the international leader in the development of powertrains, implemented Accellion's secure mobile content sharing solution. AVL employees now have secure mobile access to files of any size, which can be shared securely with people inside and outside the organization, via their mobile device of choice.

Part of AVL's design and testing processes is to use engine simulators, which output models and video files as large as 60-70GB in size. This contributes to the total data being stored in AVL doubling every two to three years. Sharing these large video files and collaborating with huge volumes of content was becoming an increasing problem for the AVL organization.

AVL had been using primarily SFTP for transferring large files and feared project teams could compromise the companies' high security standard by turning to free of charge public cloud based file-sharing services like Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft's OneDrive to share files with extremely sensitive and confidential content. As one AVL subsidiary started to use Box, AVL intensified its search for a secure enterprise on-premise private-cloud alternative that would reduce the security and compliance risks of data leakage.

"We went to the market to find experts in secure data exchange between devices and everywhere we looked, Accellion came up as the answer," said Thomas Fischer, Specialist, IT Infrastructure Analysis at AVL. "Once we deployed the Accellion solution, staff were amazed that not only could they access content on a mobile device, but also they could edit Office documents on any device from within the Accellion mobile app. Many of us in the company don't know how we ever lived without it."

With Accellion's secure mobile containerization, employees have rapidly begun using the mobile application to collaborate with internal and external partners, improving their productivity with the ability to work wherever. Only a few weeks after AVL rolled out Accellion to all its employees, it had become integral to their daily activities. The company also integrated Accellion with all of its existing Microsoft solutions including SharePoint and Outlook, so that there was no direct impact to its employees established workflows.

"Increased mobile usage and file sharing between global teams creates security challenges for companies like AVL that need to protect the integrity of their intellectual property," said Paul Steiner, Managing Director of EMEA, Accellion. "We are delighted that we have helped AVL increase the mobile productivity of its employees, while maintaining the highest levels of security and data control with Accellion."

AVL will be rolling out Accellion to more than 6650 internal users and 3000 external collaborators. The solution will also be used as a service for an additional 5000 clients and business partners to distribute software updates and documentation within secure download-only shared folders.
