Vallee, Executive Chairman of the Board of Avnet Inc., Will Personally Accept the Honor on November 17, 2011 at the Phoenix Convention Center

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - Aug 8, 2011) - From a field of top-tier candidates showcasing leadership in Arizona's technology sector, the Arizona Technology Council in partnership with the Arizona Commerce Authority, today announced that Roy Vallee, executive chairman of the board of Avnet Inc., will be presented with the "OneNeck IT Services People's Choice Lifetime Achievement Award" during the annual Governor's Celebration of Innovation (GCOI) event on November 17, 2011 at the Phoenix Convention Center. The prestigious honor was awarded to renowned architect Paolo Soleri in 2008, former Intel CEO and chairman, Craig Barrett in 2009 and Steve Sanghi, president, CEO and chairman, Microchip Technology in 2010.

The remaining Individual and Corporate Innovator and Pioneer award winners will also be honored at the event including Future Innovators (Arizona students), Arizona Teacher of the Year, Tech Ten Awards (Arizona legislators) plus Arizona Senator of the Year and Arizona Representative of the Year. Tickets for the prestigious awards gala can be purchased online at http://bit.ly/jPmt2U.

"Roy Vallee is being honored as an individual who has greatly impacted the technology industry here in Arizona," said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. "His greatest gift to both Avnet and the community has been his long-term vision. His inspirational leadership transformed Avnet into a multi-billion dollar world-class enterprise and has made Arizona a better place to live."

Mr. Vallee has been with Avnet for 34 years and served as the Company's chairman and CEO for the past 13 years. During his tenure as CEO, Avnet quadrupled sales while significantly improving return on capital employed and cash flow by establishing and driving value-based management principles globally. As Avnet's executive chairman, Mr. Vallee is focusing on ensuring the completion of the seamless transition in leadership to new Avnet CEO Rick Hamada. He will continue to Chair Avnet's Board of Directors and work on selected strategic activities.

Mr. Vallee is active in the community in various advisory roles. He has served as a founding member of the Governor's Council on Innovation and Technology and later joined the board of the Arizona Economic Resource Organization. From 2009 to 2011 Mr. Vallee served on the executive committee of the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), which was tasked with recommending changes to the former Arizona department of commerce and providing for a stronger statewide economic development model. Most recently, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer asked Mr. Vallee to join the ACA's board of directors. He also participates in Greater Phoenix Leadership, a nonprofit organization which provides a forum through which corporate leadership can effectively and efficiently collaborate with the public sector and nonprofits to establish and sustain a safe, healthy and prosperous community.

"It's an honor to receive this award and be included with the other distinguished award recipients. In many ways, I consider this to be an award recognizing the collective work of Avnet's employees more so than my own. This award is also shared with my wife Cindy and my family who have supported my demanding schedule for many years," states Vallee.

This year's event, with the theme of "Arizona Rising," will once again feature the Technology Showcase with over 50 booths, providing an opportunity for award finalists and sponsors to discuss and demonstrate their exceptional products and services to the over one thousand attendees. The night of networking, food, and entertainment includes pre-cocktails and a theatre-style format awards ceremony followed by a strolling dinner. A limited number of reserved sit-down tables with plated dinners are available for sponsors and for purchase.
