Avocent Adds New VGA Over CAT 5 With Serial Products

Delivering Managed AV Infrastructure Through Serial Device Control

HUNTSVILLE, AL--(Marketwire - February 27, 2008) - Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today announced the new Avocent Emerge® EMS series of VGA over CAT 5 extenders. The new audio video extenders deliver high resolution crystal clear video and CD quality digital stereo audio across installations up to 1000ft away. With the newly added RS232 support, video display panels can be controlled and interrogated remotely, making the EMS series the ideal professional digital signage solution. Using the flexibility of Avocent's solutions can help to deliver powerful advertising messages and information in the growing digital signage market. The most common form of a signage system relies upon central media player devices delivering video signals via CAT5 or higher cable. The Avocent EMS series of products have been specifically designed to deliver bright, accurate video with full saturation and crisp digital audio up to 1000ft from the signal source.

"We are pleased to announce the new EMS series of products," said Mitch Friend, senior vice president and general manager of Avocent. "The addition of serial capability on these products enables command and control of display devices creating a managed AV infrastructure."

The Avocent Emerge EMS2100T transmitter and EMS2100R receiver deliver point-to-point VGA video, audio, and serial data over standard CAT 5 cabling. Video performance up to 1600x1200 resolution and the units can apply a high level of signal compensation and brightness correction that insures a crisp, clear, and bright image. Control and manage your display devices with RS232 support. Each individual EMS2100R receiver supports two displays and two audio devices.

The Avocent Emerge EMS2110R VGA over CAT 5 receiver product has integrated skew correction with a 300MHz bandwidth, meaning that it is more than powerful enough to counteract the negative effects of the skew that occurs when extending video signals over distance. Having integrated de-skew capability enables quick and easy installation with the added security of adapting to changes in system.

The Avocent Emerge EMS2400T extends a single high-resolution video, high fidelity audio and RS232 signals to 4 different receivers. The EMS2400T has support for a local port to connect a local screen, speakers and serial device. The EMS2400T additionally supports cascading which enables multiple transmitters to be linked together offering unlimited enterprise expansion.
