Avocent Announces the Industry's First Failsafe, Redundant, Broadcast KVM Switching System for Unprecedented Reliability

HUNTSVILLE, AL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 16, 2007 -- Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today announced new functionality for its widely used line of AMX® analog KVM matrix switching system. This new functionality provides broadcast engineers and content creation professionals with non-stop access to critical broadcast computers and servers. The new functionality includes dual KVM matrix support for AMX user stations, providing superior reliability and access.

"Avocent continues to lead the industry in broadcast KVM switching systems through innovative offerings that meet the demanding needs of the broadcast and post-production environment," said Mitch Friend, senior vice president and general manager of Avocent. "The Avocent KVM switching solutions for broadcast greatly enhance the value of digital video editing environments."

Avocent KVM switching and extension solutions support the expanded function keys found on digital editing keyboards that enable users to put the chassis or server in the machine room and extend the keyboard, monitor, and mouse out to the graphics suite on a single UTP cable. Not only can users extend the keyboard with the Avocent products, users can allow multiple keyboards located in different studios to switch between multiple editing systems. Enhancements include expanded support for a wide range of broadcast and post-production digital nonlinear editing tools including: VIZRT Keyboard, multimedia keyboard function keys F13 to F24, previously supported Avid Fast Action Keyboard, and Chyron HyperX Keyboard. To support editing of HDTV content, support for widescreen video resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 has also been added.

"Avocent KVM switching solutions greatly enhance VIZRT's broadcast engineers' efficiency with product functionality that enables them to increase productivity and simplify management of multiple systems," said Bernt Johannessen, senior vice president of U.S. operations for VIZRT.

Demonstrations of Avocent's engineered-for-broadcast solutions will take place in the Avocent booth (#SL13016), the VIZRT booth (#SL4810), the AVID booth (#SL106), and the Chyron booth (#SL6120) at the NAB Show, in Las Vegas, NV, April 16-19, 2007. The new firmware for the AMX will be available for purchase later this month.
