Avoid the Summer Rush to Find a Good Mover

Canadian Association of Movers: CAM helps consumers find reputable movers

Attention: City Editor, Home/Garden Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor, Transportation Editor MISSISSAUGA/ONTARIO/CHOOSING A MOVER/JUNE 13, 2007--(Marketwire - June 13, 2007) - Summer is coming and many Canadians are preparing to move. Spring and summer are peak periods for moving companies and good movers get booked up early. Make sure you book now with a quality mover to avoid having to settle for a sub-standard mover!

Here are ten tips from the Canadian Association of Movers (CAM) to help you find a better mover and have a better move:

DOs
1. Use a reputable mover. Check with your provincial government, the Better Business Bureau and with CAM (at www.mover.net/consumers.html or toll free 1-866-860-0065).
2. Always get your estimate IN WRITING.
3. Read Industry Canada's Consumer Checklist for Choosing a Moving Company.
4. Ask how your goods will be physically protected and insured while in transit.
5. Pay for a quality mover (so you don't pay the price later for a bad one).

DON'Ts
1. Make your decision based solely on price.
2. Rely on advertised or verbal promises.
3. Accept any agreement not supported in writing.
4. Assume that the mover is insured.
5. Assume that the mover you contract will be the one who moves you.

You have a responsibility to protect yourself. Find out about your rights and responsibilities. There are consumer protection laws to protect you, but it's far easier to get a reputable mover than to try and get a remedy after the move.

Professional movers assist their customers to prepare for their moves, ensure their goods are protected and do the jobs at the agreed terms and conditions.

CAM is Canada's trade association for the moving industry. It certifies movers, helps consumers find quality moving services and monitors movers' performance. Its mission is to promote quality service. Good consumer relations and a positive industry reputation are CAM's goals. /For further information: Visit CAM’s website, www.mover.net; fax enquiry to 905-848-8499; mail to Canadian Association of Movers, 2085 Hurontario Street, Suite 525, Mississauga, ON L5A 4G1.
