Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival Commemorates a Decade of Honoring Father's Favorite Fix-All

AVON, OH--(Marketwired - May 16, 2013) - From World War II repair kits to the peace-signed vans of the 1960s to the crafting tables of today, what's the one thing that has stood the test of time -- and been a permanent part of everyone's toolbox? And, this year, we're celebrating dad's favorite fix-all once again with the 10^th annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival -- an annual Father's Day tradition that has drawn nearly a half million duct tape enthusiasts from around the country since debuting in 2003 to celebrate all things duct tape.

This year, the Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival will pay homage to the evolution of duct tape since its invention in the 1940s with a "Decades of Duck Tape^®" theme. While originally conceived to help soldiers waterproof ammunition cases and make repairs in the field during World War II, the product has grown through the decades to become a repair tool, crafting medium, fashion must-have and more.

From Friday, June 14 - Sunday, June 16, 2013, the festival will welcome duct tape enthusiasts from around the country to Avon, Ohio, the "Duct Tape Capital of the World" and home of Duck Tape^® brand duct tape.

Festival-goers will be able to dig deeper into duct tape's rich heritage as they enjoy Duck Tape^® sculptures, a scavenger hunt, a Ducktivities^™ arts and crafts tent where they can express their creativity, a parade featuring Duck Tape^® floats, and traditional festival fare, like games, rides, food, live entertainment and more. 

This year, Duck Tape^® will even hit the runway with a sticky fashion show that's sure to inspire fashionistas of all ages. Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the show will feature fashions from the recent Season 11 "Project Runway" Duck Tape^® Unconventional Materials Challenge, including the challenge's winning look designed by Season 11 winner Michelle Lesniak Franklin and partner Amanda Valentine.

Following the "Project Runway" fashion show, festival-goers are also challenged to break out their best Duck Tape^® flair -- from hats to purses to dresses to tuxes and ties -- for an opportunity to strut their creations on the catwalk. Putting her Duck Tape^® design expertise to use, Michelle Lesniak Franklin will serve as a celebrity judge for this public fashion show, evaluating the entries based on criteria of workmanship, originality, use of colors, accessories, stage presence and use of Duck Tape^® brand duct tape. Two lucky entrants -- one selected by random drawing and one selected by the judges -- will be named winners and receive four suite tickets to the Justin Bieber concert in Cleveland on July 13, 2013.

The Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival takes place at Veterans Memorial Park, 37001 Detroit Road, in Avon:

• Friday, June 14: open 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
• Saturday, June 15: open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Duct tape parade at 10 a.m. starting at Avon High School and ending at Veterans Memorial Park
  • "Project Runway" fashion show at 2 p.m., with public fashion show to follow
• Sunday, June 16: open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
