AVST Promotes Tom Minifie to Chief Technology Officer

Company Further Bolsters Executive Team by Adding Martin McKendry as Senior Vice President of Research & Development

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - November 11, 2008) - Applied Voice & Speech Technologies, Inc. (AVST) today announced the promotion of Tom Minifie to the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). As AVST's CTO, Mr. Minifie's primary responsibility will be defining and driving the strategic direction of AVST's world class CallXpress® product line.

Additionally, AVST today announced that Martin McKendry has joined AVST's executive team as Senior Vice President of Research & Development (R&D). Martin brings a wealth of engineering experience and technical and strategic relationships to AVST, which will be leveraged to extend the core competitive advantages of AVST's products as well as accelerate the development of next generation Unified Communications capabilities. Martin's short term focus will be on managing the next release of CallXpress in 2009, as well as delivering expanded platform capabilities in the areas of mobility, presence and communications-enabled business processes.

Mr. McKendry has over two decades of experience in technology related organizations, most recently with Avaya, where in his position as Vice President, R&D, Unified Communications Division, he was responsible for the development functions associated with Avaya's Unified Communications product portfolio. Prior to Avaya, McKendry held senior Engineering positions at Siebel Systems, Inc. including Senior Vice President, Quality Assurance and Vice President, Applications. Early in his career, Mr. McKendry held senior Engineering positions at Resumix, Inc. and FileNet Corporation. Mr. McKendry has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.Sc. in Information Science from Victoria University of New Zealand.
